Why build an animated GIF without uploading each image?
Turning a set of photos into a looping GIF means handing over every single frame to whatever service does the encoding — often the slowest part of using an online GIF maker. NearIMG encodes the animation entirely in your browser, so ordering, timing and export all happen without any of the source images leaving your device.
How it works
- Drop in several images — these become the frames — and drag the thumbnails into the order you want.
- Set the frame delay (40–1000 ms), the output width (240/360/480 px) and whether the animation loops.
- Click Make GIF. The animation is encoded entirely in your browser and downloads as a ready-to-post .gif file.
GIF is a decades-old format with a hard limit NearIMG can't lift: at most 256 colours for the whole animation. The encoder builds the best shared palette it can (median-cut quantisation over all the frames), but photographic frames will show some banding — that's the format, not a bug. Frames are letterboxed onto a shared canvas at your chosen width, and more frames or a larger width mean a rapidly bigger file. For photo-heavy clips a video format is objectively better; GIF's advantage is that it plays literally everywhere, with no play button.

Why do the colours look grainy or banded?
The GIF format allows only 256 colours in total, so smooth gradients get approximated. Images with fewer distinct colours — screenshots, drawings, UI — come out essentially perfect; photos show it more.
